Introduction
Zone Group 3 & 12 held their 5th race at Imola and it was an incident-filled event!
Qualifying
Qualifying started with a bang as the top three drivers qualified within 0.2 seconds of each other with Jacob Shum leading Rafael Amorim and Robert Rattray.
Heat Race
From the green flag, the 30-minute heat race found the top-3 fighting closely with each other until the round of pitstops where Jacob had a slow stop. Robert and Rafael fought tooth and nail to the end until they came up behind a backmarker.
At Rivazza, Robert successfully cleared the backmarker. Rafael tried to follow Robert through but tracked out a little wide, made contact, and lost time. This ended Rafael’s chances to challenge Robert for the win.
Rafael finished second with Jacob closely following to take third. Christian Rava ran a clean race to finish fourth ahead of Sean Murphy.
Feature Race
All was not lost though as the second race, a 20-minute feature, reversed grid for the top 8; Gary Reiss leading the cars for the formation lap. The rundown to turn 1 was action-packed—the mixed-up grid providing overtaking opportunities for all.
Robert was able to take the lead and quickly built a gap while Jacob was stuck behind slower cars for more than one lap.
Multiple incidents occurred throughout the race with Robert escaping unscathed to take the win once again. Jacob took second place as Rafael recovers from his incidents to take third. Jonathan Shum finished in fourth place followed closely by Christian.
